Meet Terri Reed

Who is your favorite author?

That’s a hard question. There are so many authors that I go to when I need a good read. And I can’t say there’s one particular genre either. But I’ll share some of my favorites with you.

Susan Elizabeth Philips

Tess Gerritsen

Lisa Gardner

Justine Davis

Mariah Stewart

Lenora Worth

Oh, my, the list could go on and on.

What inspired you to write? What inspired you to get published?

I’ve wanted to be an author since I was in junior high. I had a wonderful English teacher who introduced me to . . . → Read More: Meet Terri Reed

Meet Delilah Marvelle

Who is your favorite author?

My favorite author is Edith Wharton. There is a romanticism that meshes an anguished reality that pokes at everything I am.

What inspired you to write? What inspired you to get published?

When Hemingway was once asked what makes for a good writer, his response was, “An Unhappy childhood.” And sadly, I fall into that category. Writing is an extension of my emotions and a need to escape. I’ve been doing it since childhood as a result of my unhappiness. That unhappiness, however, turned into a joy, and it’s rippled through . . . → Read More: Meet Delilah Marvelle

Meet Jenna Bayley-Burke

Who is your favorite author?

Public domain - Jane Austen. Still collecting royalties – Vicki Lewis Thompson.

What inspired you to write? What inspired you to get published?

I can’t recall not writing, or at least retelling stories to entertain myself. Writing for publication was a bucket list event. In the middle of a health crisis, I thought it truly is now or never.

What is your favorite moment from working with an editor? An agent?

There are lots of fun memories. When sales spiked for Compromising Positions, my editor and I were emailing constantly because no . . . → Read More: Meet Jenna Bayley-Burke

Meet Cassiel Knight

Who is your favorite author?

Jim Butcher – but for his Harry Dresden series. I just love the world he created for Harry and I’m in awe of his imagination. Overall, it would have to be Stephen King. He’s so wickedly scary and such a genius at creating terror on the page.

What inspired you to write? What inspired you to get published?

I’ve always written. I don’t remember anything specific that led me in this direction. I just remember always writing. I loved English Composition and writing essays, I was the editor of my school’s newspaper and since . . . → Read More: Meet Cassiel Knight

Meet Relium Media and Angel Punk

What inspired you to start a company that works on “transmedia” projects?

Hollywood and the big motion picture studios have become more of a distribution and marketing engine. It’s less about the actual filmmaking and more about driving consumers to see specific films. This takes a lot of money and for independent filmmakers, it’s almost prohibitively expensive.

Kevin Curry (@kevincurry), Devon Lyon (@lyonfilms) and Jake Rossman (@JakeRelium) all have backgrounds in filmmaking and Scott Nelson (@ScottNelson) has co-written a handful of screenplays with Kevin & Devon.

The primary route to success for an indie film . . . → Read More: Meet Relium Media and Angel Punk

Meet Phillip Margolin

Who is your favorite author?

Joseph Conrad

What inspired you to write? What inspired you to get published?

I began reading voraciously in elementary school. I was always in awe of authors. It never occurred to me that I would be able to write something that someone would publish. In my last semester in law school I had some free time so I decided to write a novel because I couldn’t figure out how anyone could possibly do it. In my mid-30s I sold a short story to a national publication so that gave me the self-confidence . . . → Read More: Meet Phillip Margolin

Meet Jeff Burk

Who is your favorite author?

There’s no way I could pick one. My all time favorite authors and my favorite books/stories/comics by them are:

Carlton Mellick III – Zombies and Shit, The Menstruating Mall, and The Haunted Vagina Brian Keene – Earthworm Gods, The Rising, and Jack’s Magic Beans Edward Lee – The Pig, Brain Cheese Buffet, and The Haunter of the Threshold H. G. Wells – War of the Worlds and The Island of Dr. Moreau H. P. Lovecraft – The Mountains of Madness, The Call of Cthulhu, and The Colour Out of Space Grant Morrison . . . → Read More: Meet Jeff Burk

Meet Inara Scott

Who is your favorite author? It really depends on genre–I love Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Jenny Crusie for contemporary romance, and adored Anne McCaffrey and David Eddings for fantasy. In young adult, I’m all over the place, but I love just about everything Meg Cabot writes.

What inspired you to write? What inspired you to get published?

I don’t think there’s a specific inspiration. I’d say it’s more like an obsession. Or maybe a disorder. Definitely not healthy, but I definitely can’t get rid of it!

Meet Ken Scholes

Who is your favorite author?I think it’s a three-way-tie between Ray Bradbury, Phillip K. Dick and Stephen King. What inspired you to write? What inspired you to get published?

I read Bradbury’s essay “How to Keep and Feed a Muse” when I was fourteen.  I forthwith started writing stories and as soon as I learned how to type them up, I started submitting them.  I came back to it as an adult and started publishing short stories…then slid into novels rather recently.

With my editor, it would . . . → Read More: Meet Ken Scholes

Meet Jason V. Brock

Sometimes it’s difficult, and sometimes people make it personal. I think there are times when perceived rivalry and/or jealousy influence someone, even if you do your best to reach out and be a big person about things. I’ve had a couple “hatchet jobs” done on me, but you just have to roll with it, even if it hurts, and realize it’s more about their hang-ups than the merits/demerits of your work. . . . → Read More: Meet Jason V.
